The Charter on Corporate Responsibility for Environmental Protection (CREP) guidelines impose several new requirements on pulp and paper mills in India to adopt more environmentally friendly practices, including a reduction in AOX emissions that will require a shift away from chlorine based pulp bleaching. This paper describes Aker Solutions' integrated chlorine dioxide process, and examines its operating costs in India as compared to the typical methanol-based process.
