The paper would attempt to highlight the benefits that would accrue to utility or integrated power system thorough analysis and case study of various trippings, performance of protection schemes during black outs, grid accidents etc. The paper would take a few incidences of grid collapses occurring in typical large Indian grids such as Northern grid and underscore that protection performance analysis goes a long way in preventing recurrence of avoidable trippings.
