Carbon market development in India - The growth story

The international carbon market, as we see it today, is the result of the early regulatory efforts to mitigate climate change. Regulations constraining carbon emissions spawned an emerging carbon market that was valued in the first half of 2009 on the basis of an increase in trading by 124 per cent when compared to the same period in 2008: this resulted in 4.1 giga-tonnes of carbon traded across the global markets.
