Active Conservation Techniques
Ludhiana, in the state of Punjab, houses a prominent cluster of small and medium scale forging units engaged in production of auto and cycle parts, hand tools and other machinery components. There are approximately 200 forging units in and around Ludhiana. The entire process of forging is quite energy intensive and since it is operational on a mass scale in this cluster, a huge quantum of energy is consumed by this particular sector of industry. Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) supported a project that was executed by Winrock International India (WII), with an overall objective of improving the energy efficiency of forging units in the cluster.
