Rural transformation through dencentralized technologies: Empowerment and participatory systems management approach

Present aims to discuss innovative features and systems approach adopted in implementing time bound and technology based developmental projects under the Science and Society Programme of Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi which have resulted in some technology models/packages for rural application and poverty reduction showing potential for replication in other areas. The paper highlights case studies directly from the field on practical experiences gained by science based voluntary organization/S&T field groups from rural India in developing/fine tuning/simplification/transfer of appropriate technologies for specific conditions with new as well as with more conventional approaches for rural development particulary in mountain areas focusing on deprived sections of the society.
