Down to Earth
Beavers are among the lesser known rodents.
Their secret lives have been revealed in a new study. Using discreet video cameras, scientists have been able to study natural behaviour of beavers “at home” in their lodges. Tiny, waterproof cameras, inserted into beaver dens, showed that the animal is very cooperative at home.
Male and female beavers take equal responsibilities for raising babies perhaps because the young are of “high maintenance”. In the privacy of their home, beavers spend 95 per cent of their time feeding, sleeping, and grooming the kids. They follow sleep schedule similar to humans.
