The 'Uttar Pradesh Water Management and Regulatory Commission (UPWMRC) Act, 2008' was passed in the legislative assembly of Uttar Pradesh is the latest addition to the legal reforms pursued in various states in India in the water sector. Establishment of a regulatory authority in water sector will have wide ranging impacts on the public interest in the water sector. This article aims to give a brief introduction to the new regulatory law in UP and highlights major areas of public concern.
