What are best practices? Best practices are the building blocks in terms of efficient and productive practices which go into the making of a successful organization in the process of evolving a culture. In this respect STUs, being pioneers in large scale bus operations, have set standards in almost every aspect of bus operation and have indeed evolved into a relatively more successful public enterprises in the state sector. However, with the rising expectations of passengers in terms of quality and adequacy, and the inevitable competition with personalized modes of transport and all other public transport vehicles, the transport scene today is vastly different from what it had been even a decade earlier. This paper lists practices which need to be preserved and new practices which need to be evolved.
