India Tribal Convention, which began on Monday in Ranchi, Bihar, has alleged that nearly one crore tribals would be removed from their dwellings by a directive of Union Environment Ministry to remove illegal occupants from forest areas. "The Union Environment Ministry directive to every States and Union Territory to evict illegal occupants from encroached forest land will lead to eviction of nearly one crore tribals in the country" said Prakash Karat, police bureau member of Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI-M.
