10 die of dysentery in Rayagada

BERHAMPUR: Dysentery has struck Bissamcuttack block in Rayagada district with a vengeance. Ten persons of four villages in the block have died, sources said adding six have died in five days, including an infant, in Gadaba village. According to sources, the disease was first reported from Gayalkana village when two persons died and subsequently it spread to adjacent Kandhguda village where it claimed two more persons. Suspected to spread from the use of contaminated water, the disease has infected around 80 persons of four villages. Fresh cases were reported on Monday when more than 10 persons of Gadaba village were affected and two of them admitted to hospital. Health officials have reached the village. Bissamcuttack administration has an ambulance into service to ferry the patients. Meanwhile, the district health office sent a team to the affected village to ascertain the reason of spreading of the disease.
