13 new cases in Delhi - 2 dengue deaths in Gurgaon

NEW DELHI Two dengue patients have died and 40 of them are battling the disease at different hospitals, taking the number of dengue cases in the district this season to 348. Giving these details, Gurgaon civil surgeon Dr S.S. Dalal said the district administration and health authorities are making all efforts to control the spread of the disease. Fogging has been done in the houses of all the positive cases and many houses in the neighbourhood have also been covered under the operation as a preventive measure, he said. However, Gurgaon deputy commissioner Deepti Umashankar lamented that the people are not adopting precautionary measures though they were being constant ly told about preventive steps. Meanwhile, a report from Jalandhar said the authorities were busy checking the spread of the virus following detection of a dengue positive patient in the town. With 13 more dengue cases reported in Delhi on Friday, the total number of dengue cases has gone up to 121. According to municipal health officials, four cases were reported from Shahdara (North), three from Najafgarh and two each from Narela and Delhi Cantonment zones. One case each was reported from West and Central zones. MCD officials maintained that despite a spurt in the number of cases in the past few days, the disease is unlikely to assume epidemic proportions. The sudden rise in the number of cases is expected during this time of the year, said an MCD official.
