The landscape looks desolate with tree stumps jutting out of lush green grass for ove a kilometre near Nainital - as if a ginat scythe had cut a wide swathe through the area. Just when the tourist season is about to begin, this hill station is expressing its outrage over the hacking of more than 1,700 trees about a month ago for which the guilty are yet to be punished. There was a funeral air at the crowded Mall here on May 9 when it witnessed a protest march demanding expeditious action against the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Sanstha(MMYS) for fellng of 1,700 teak and sal trees on the land recently purchased by it.
