175 villages covered under RVE programme: Ruhullah

Jammu: Nearly 17,000 households have been covered under Remote Electrification Programme (RVE) against the target of 25000 households so far in the State, revealed Minister for Science and Information Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah, while reviewing physical and financial achievements of the programme at a high level meeting held here today. The Minister said that Centre has sanctioned over 15000 solar lanterns costing ` 5.30 crore, for 73 Gujjar habitations of the State, adding that Reasi district of Jammu division has been identified for exploitation of wind energy and in this regard MoU is being shortly signed with National Hydle Power Corporation (NHPC). Secretary Science and Information Technology, Manoj Diwedi, Chief Executive Officer and other senior officers of JKEDA attended the meeting. The Minister stressed upon the concerned authorities for early completion of the distribution of solar lights and solar lanterns among the beneficiaries. He asked concerned officers to ensure timely submission of utilization certificates to the Centre so that more projects would be approved by Centre for covering left over villages and hamlets under this programme.. While reviewing the physical and financial achievement of RVE, the meeting was informed that under this programme 175 villages have been identified and 25987 households have been provided solar home lights against the target of 34427. While as 3323 solar lanterns (SL) have been distributed out of 7865 sanctioned in Kashmir division among Gujjar and Bakerwals, in Jammu 1262 lanterns stand distributed against the target of 7285. The meeting was told that Centre has sanctioned 20000 home solar lights for general category with 50 percent subsidy and would be distributed shortly to the applicants applied for the purpose. Regarding progress of micro and mini hydro power projects, it was given out that Centre has approved 3 projects having capacity of 105 kw costing ` 76.15 lakh. The Centre has approved Rs 68 lakh for installation of 680 Gobar Gas Plants, each costing ` 35000 in which Centre and State share would be ` 10000 and 19,750 respectively while beneficary's share is ` 5250 only. Presently 250 beneficiaries have been identified at Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur districts, the meeting was informed.
