SIPAHEEJALA (TRIPURA): A vulture has been spotted in Tripura after a gap of ten years. The bird was sighted during an animal census in Sipaheejala sanctuary, wildlife warden Nirad B Debnath said. "It was a matter of immense joy that a vulture was sighted by forest officials in this sanctuary recently especially at a time when the population of the bird has declined considerably in the country. And even in Tripura, no vulture has been sighted in the last ten years," Debnath said. A census party saw a vulture about a fortnight ago in the forest and informed the ranger who rushed to the spot and saw the bird sitting on a cotton tree. "We have collected feathers of the vulture and through its examination we will be able to know the gender of the bird. We hope to find the nest of the bird in this sanctuary," ranged Gautam Karmakar said.
