The government has decided to initiate the process of six-laning of National Highways under phase five of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP-V) by awarding contract for the first 500 kilometers before the end of the fiscal. The proposal will be sent for Cabinet clearance later this month. The Prime Minister's committee on infrastructure, in a meeting last week, asked the ministry of transport to finalise the manual of standards and specifications for six-laning highways. The ministry has been asked to get back to the committee with its report in two months time.
