Two men were tram pled to death by an angry wild elephant after another pachyderm fell into an irrigation well while being chased away by people of a village in Krishnagiri district on Saturday. According to wildlife sources a herd of 15 wild elephants strayed into Muthampatti village in the Krishnagiri reserve area on Saturday morning. When the villagers chased away the herd, one of the elephants fell into a 25-ft deep irrigation well. While the other elephants went into the forest, another kept running around the place for some time and then strayed into nearby Kolampatti village. When villagers there tried to drive it away, it caught hold of two men and crushed them to death. The jumbo also refused to leave the village despite efforts to drive it away using drums. The tusker left after some time on its own. The Krishnagiri police and district forest officials rushed to the spot immediately.
