AS many as 200 students, including 90 girls, of standard I to VIII of the Asthagiriyur Panchayat Union Middle School in Morappur block were admitted to the Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital in the area, after they complained of vomiting on Thursday.
Out of the total strength of 389 students, 364 were present in the school on Thursday and 200 students were supplied with boiled egg along with noon meal.
Teacher K Senthilkumar (33) has tasted the egg, before serving it to the students. After an hour, Senthilkumar reportedly complained of vomiting. A little later, several students and teachers were taken ill.
When students started vomiting, headmaster K Manickam sent them to Kadathur Government Hospital. Parents also thronged the school in large numbers.
Students, who received first aid, were referred to the Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital with the help of ex- MLA and AIADMK Jayalalithaa Peravai secretary S Palaniyappan.
Drips were administered to some students.
Collector P Amudha and Former Minister V Mullaivendan, MLA, reached the hospital. RMO Sundaravadhanam briefed the Collector on the status of the students.
Later, the Collector said there were no serious complaints, adding that vomiting by some had induced the sensation in others. Morappur BDO will look into the problem and submit a report.
CEO in-charge S Suganya and ADPC SSA Somasundar accompanied the Collector.
Dharmapuri MP Dr R Senthil also visited the children at the hospital.
