2.76 lakh to get waiver

Rajahmundry, June 29: The loan waiver announced by the Central government will benefit 2.76 lakh farmers to the tune of Rs 540 crore in East Godavari district. Details of the waiver were announced by the district agriculture department at a review meet organised on Sunday at the local roads and buildings guest house. The meeting was presided over by district incharge minister, Mr J.C. Diwakar Reddy. Announcing the details at the meeting, joint director of agriculture, Mr Nandayya, said the loan waiver pertaining to both commercial and cooperative banks, including regional rural banks, had come to Rs 540 crore. They include 362 commercial banks, 16 RRBs and 47 cooperative banks in the district. Of the nationalised banks, Andhra Bank leads the list with Rs 74.93 crore relating to 37,502 farmers. In the second place, the State Bank of India has 28,721 beneficiaries under the loan waiver to the tune of Rs 70.51crore. The minister directed officials to organise programmes at the mandal-level for distribution of beneficiary certificates to farmers between July 8 to 15. Mr Nandayya said the lists would be ready by Monday. Ministers, Mr Jakkampudi Rama Mohana Rao, Mr P. Subhash Chandra Bose, district collector, Mr Gopala Krishna Dwivedi and others were present.
