Composting units became a reality in the Commercial Capital on Tuesday as per the orders of the High Court mandating the Civic bodies to set up these units to tackle garbage problem. A total of three composting units were commissioned in the city at the hands of Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat on Tuesday, with Kamat promising help and assistance to the civic body to tide over the garbage mess. While one unit has been set up at the staff quarters, Power house, the other two units stand erected at Aquem and Gogol. This is the first time ever that the Civic body is experimenting with the composting unit and hope the same would offer a solution to the problem of garbage disposal, notwithstanding that the composting units have come under stiff opposition from sections of the public. Evincing keen interest in the composting units, the Chief Minister sought details on the operation of the composting units and the number of units that would be set up in the city. When MMC Chief Officer Y B Tawde drew attention of the Chief Minister to the opposition brewing up against the units, Kamat instructed the Civic officials to ensure the units already installed function properly, which would help erase public misconceptions on the units. Incidentally, the 20-member Civic body was mandated to set up 60 units in the city
