Chief Judicial Magistrate Sukram Pal has sentenced three hoteliers - Chaman Lal, Ram Singh and Suchha Singh - to imprisonment for one year each, holding them guilty of adulteration in foodstuff. The CJM has also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on each of the three convicts. According to information provided by district food inspector R.K. Yadav, samples of flour were taken from Chaman Lal's hotel at Dharuhera and Ram Singh's canteen in Khaliawas village, near Dharuhera, in 1997 while a sample of fish meat was taken from Suchha Singh's hotel on Railway Road here in 1998. The samples, which were dispatched for chemical examination to the public analyst, Haryana, Chandigarh, were later found adulterated. Consequently cases under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act were registered against the three hoteliers, and the cases sent to court for trial.
