Its good news for the farmers of Haryana, who have to bear burgeoning losses, amounting up to Rs 55,000 crore per year, due to lack of proper post harvest management system in the state. The Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) has planned to develop collection centres, commodity hubs and terminal Markets across the state to reduce these losses and increase the price realisation for the farmers. Following a three tier system of collection of agricultural produce, the board will set up 100 collection centres, 22 commodity hubs and a few terminal Markets spread across different blocks of the districts. Expanding upon the plan, a senior official of HSAMB told FE that in the first phase the state government had cleared single and multi commodity hubs at 11 locations including Panipat, Hisar, Narnaul, Abub Shahar, Sonepat, Rohtak, Karnal, Gurgaon etc. A budget of about Rs 68 crore was allocated for this. "Now in the second phase 11 new locations like Yamunanagar, Fatehabad, Rewari, Bhiwani, Jind, Pehwa, Sirsa, Kurukshetra etc will be added under the purview of this programme, Another sum of same amount has been set aside for the development,' he said. The official further added, "Work on about 15 commodity hubs is already going on. About 100 purchase centers will be upgraded to the level of collection centers in the state.'
