The hour-long meeting between Salim Group chief Mr Benny Santoso and chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee merely managed to set a deadline for a final settlement by 30 July on projects the Indonesian conglomerate is eyeing in the Kolkata, West Bengal, including the mega chemical hub at Nandigram. The Salim Group today submitted only a preliminary report instead of Detailed Project Reports for its proposed projects and asked the state for close to 40,000 acres of land, including 25,000 acres for the mega chemical hub and Special Economic Zone in Haldia. The Salim Group chief, however, didn't spell out the quantum of investment for these projects. Besides, the group sought another 7,000 acres in South 24 Parganas for a township and 3,000 acres for construction of a road between Barasat and Raichak.
