30,405 kids suffer from malnutrition

A total of 30,405 children are suffering from malnutrition in Kodagu district. As per the government scheme, milk will be distributed to the kids four days in a week and eggs will be supplied for two days in a week, said Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari.
Speaking at a district-level meeting on integrated child development monitoring committee here on Wednesday, he said that nutritious food should be supplied to such kids.
A committee has been constituted to check the quality of the food.
The committee will visit 12 anganwadi centres in a month to check the quality of the food.
There are 869 anganwadi centres in the district.
Nutritious food are supplied to 30,405 children below six years old, 3,944 pregnant women, 4,098 puerperal women, 11,119 girls in the age group of 11 to 18.
DHO Dr O R Srirangappa said that iron tablets are given to children once in a week.
DDPI V M Kantharaj said that anganwadi centres will be given space in the school premises.
Women and Child Welfare Deputy Director T M Jayasheela said that196 anganwadi centres do not have own building.
