Something strange is happening at the afforested plot on Vidyanidhi Marg, in Mumbai, where 32 trees were surreptitiously chopped down. The 5,500-squaree-metre plot was handed over to the Ronson Foundation in 1990 for development and maintenance as a green belt by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). While the Ronson Foundation claimed that it was unaware of the happenings on the plot. The trees were 20 years old and included the Australian acacia, casuarina, peltoforum, eucalyptus and coconut trees.
