36 p.c. rise in foreign tourists in Rajasthan

Rajasthan has registered a 36 per cent increase in the arrival of foreign tourists and a 29 per cent increase in the influx of domestic tourists in the first four months of this year. The desert State expects the visit of nearly 12-lakh foreign tourists to popular destinations this year, while 4.56-lakh tourists have already made a trip to important towns across the State.Providing the figures at a review meeting of Tourism Department here, the Minister of State for Tourism, Usha Punia, pointed out that the growth in the foreign tourist arrivals in Rajasthan was much above the national average of 18 per cent. About 4.28-lakh international tourists visited the State in 2002, 6.29-lakh in 2003 and 9.72-lakh in 2004.
