37,500 new jobs in State under NREGA

JORHAT, July 16: As many as 37,500 new jobs have been created for the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) schemes in the State. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who inaugurated the NREGA schemes for Jorhat district at an official function held at Kalakunj public hall at Borholla in Titabor subdivision last weekend, said that the posts of gram rojgar sahayaks and nayaks would fulfil the employment needs of the rural youths. Under the NREGA schemes, bunds would be built at Kakodonga river in Namchungi-Napamua village, Soraipani river and Borholla in Titabor subdivision at costs of Rs 25 lakh, Rs 18 lakh and Rs 33 lakh respectively, an official release quoted the Chief Minister as stating in the function. The Chief Minister said that the NREGA schemes would be implemented in all eight development blocks of the district. In the current year, 1.20 lakh job cards will be provided. As many as 12 lakh man days have been fixed following a survey which identified 1,78,525 rural households in Jorhat. Rural Development and Transport Minister Chandan Brahma, who had accompanied the Chief Minister, pointed out that Jorhat has been included for the implementation of the NREGA schemes in the third phase. A report has been submitted, earmarking Rs 92.617 crore for labourers, he said. The gram sabhas in the district have approved 10,631 schemes for 2008-09, the minister added. The Jorhat Deputy Commissioner revealed that Rs 5.35 crore has been released for the execution of the NREGA schemes in the district. The spare money on account of SGRY schemes will be incorporated into NREGA, she said. An online service through website has been put into place for direct submission of reports from all development blocks to the Centre, the Deputy Commissioner added.
