CANACONA, JULY 4 - Though the solution to the garbage problem in rural Canacona is at miniature stage, it has received a boost in four villages with the taluka's BDO forwarding land acquisition proposals to the Directorate of Panchayats. According to sources, better days are ahead for the residents from Agonda, Loliem-Polem, Gaondongrim and Poinguinim on garbage disposal front. Canacona BDO has taken up the lands earmarked by the local bodies under the Rural Garbage Disposal Scheme 2005 for acquisition process. Canacona BDO Arvind Khutkar informed that after the Pollution Board conducted examinations of the land sites, accorded their approval for the land sites earmarked by the village bodies. "The proposals are now forwarded to the Directorate of Panchayat for necessary land acquisition process, after getting all the required details of actual land to be acquired and the rates eligible to be paid to the landowners,' informed Mr Khutkar. According to Mr Khutkar, the details of the quantum of land to be acquired and the rates include Agonda (5,162 sq mtrs), Loliem-Polem (3,600 sq mtrs), Gaondongrim (4,954 sq mtrs) and Poinguinim (5,000 sq mtrs). Mr Khutkar further informed that the land sites would be effectively used by the panchayat for disposing off the garbage generated in their villages, once the lands are acquired and developed with required pits. "The areas will also be cordoned off under the Rural Garbage Disposal Scheme 2005,' said Mr Khutkar.
