Despite concerted efforts by forest officials to track down illegal felling of trees in Canacona taluka, Goa, about 40 teakwood trees were illegally chopped in Cotigao in the past few days. The illegal felling of the trees was brought to light by residents, even as forest authorities have found it difficult to nab the timber smugglers. A resident of Cotigao disclosed that since the past many years he was a witness to the illegal cutting of trees from the forest.
