The Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) has completed construction of 421,000 houses in the quake affected region, the authority chairman Altaf M. Salim said here on Wednesday. Addressing a certificate distribution ceremony for the participants of ERRA Interns and Volunteers Programme (EIVP), Salim said the authority was actively working in 12 rehabilitation sectors where housing, education, health and livelihood were being given top priority. He said the internees and volunteers programme extended an auxiliary opportunity to youngsters for participation in one of the largest reconstruction and rehabilitation projects in Asia. "This will prove to be a meaningful and productive exposure for them, as it will not only enhance their professional skills, but also chance to serve humanity,' he added. The interns should share their training and experiences of field trips with their friends and other young people to motivate them for participation in the future programmes, Altaf emphasized. The EIVP director general, Brigadier Zaman, said the young participants will be the goodwill ambassadors of ERRA to promote humanitarian cause for betterment of the community at large. He said 20 candidates had been selected from 350 applicants for the first phase of internship programme. app
