46 per cent outlay increased

DH News Service, New Delhi: Planning Commission of India on Tuesday approved Karnatakas annual plan size for Rs 25,953 crore for the year 2008-09, giving emphasis to infrastructure development and social sector. The State plan size was increased of about 46 per cent over the plan outlay of 2007-08, which was Rs 17,783 crore. With this, Karnataka stood third place in India after Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in terms of having highest plan outlay State. Plan size of Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh was Rs 44,000 crore and Rs 35,000 crore, respectively. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa who held a discussion with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia on State plan size also requested him to allocate Rs 1,500 crore of special assistance to Karnataka for 2008-09 towards improvement of infrastructure. He also demanded reimbursement of Rs 1,880 crore which was spent by the State government in 2006-07 and 2007-08 on waiving of co-operative sector loans. Rs 100 crore Lauding the performance of Karnataka's economy, which logged over 7 per cent growth in the last fiscal, Ahluwalia announced to sanction Rs 100 crore to take up projects of special interest to the State.
