48 tree species in India under threat

Report : About 10 per cent of the world's one lakh tree species, including 48 from India, are in imminent danger of being wiped out, according to a report. The 'world list of threatened trees' prepared by the World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC) based in UK, reported in the journal ' Science', points to 976 species that are critically endangered and facing extinction unless urgent action is taken and thousands of others that are under threat.
