48 tree species in India under threat

About ten per cent of the world's one lakh tree species, including 48 from India, are in imminent danger of being wiped out, according to a report. The 'World list of threatened trees' prepared by the World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC) based in the UK, reported in the journal 'Science', points to 976 species that are critically endangerd and facing extinction unless urgent action is taken and thousands of others that are under threat.
