5 villages in Simga under grip of diarrhoea; 1 dead

Residents of Kareli, Kamta, Navagaon, Khanduva and Musuvadeeh villages in Simga Janpad Panchayat are under the grip of diarrhoea for the last two days. A youth of Kareli village died of diarrhoea, whereas, dozens are suffering from the disease in the nearby villages also. On seeing symptoms of the disease , as their condition deteriorated, the affected got themselves admitted in the Community Health Centre (CHC) here .As the number of patients has increased, the Block Medical Officer (BMO) GN Som sent health staff to all affected villages, who are treating the patients by holding camp. In this regard, Baloda Bazar Chief Medical Officer (CMO) PK Tiwari said that he had received a phone call from Simga CMO that 50 diarrhoea patients were found in Kareli village, the situation is normal and treatment is going on.So far, 25 diarrhoea patients were found in Kareli, the dependent village of Sankri Village Panchayat.The BMO, Dr Som himself is camped in Sankri. Similarly, 15 diarrhoea patients were diagnosed with diarrhoea in Kamta village, where four health workers, two supervisors and Mitanins are distributing medicines to the patients by holding camp. Some diarrhoea patients were found in Musuvadeeh, Navagarh and Khanduva villages also.Rameshwar, Parmeshwari, Virendra, Kanshiram Verma, Bhagwati Bai of Kamta village; Jeevan Dhruv of Jhiriya village and Ambar Bai and Hemlata of Musuvadeeh are admitted in the Community Health Centre here. Bleaching powder was sprayed in the affected villages and chlorine tablets were put in the hand pumps. Dr Som said that leakage in pipeline was the main reason for the spread of diarrhoea in Kamta and Kareli villages. In Kamta, the most affected area is Daihanpara, where leakage in pipeline was detected in two places, he added.Dr Som said that chlorine medicine is being distributed to villagers and they were advised to take boiled water and hot food.Information about spread of the disease in Simga area had been given to the district administration and the PHED, but nobody yet has visited the site. The bleaching powder received by the CHC has been used by the health workers in the villages. PHED has not yet made the bleaching powder available, he said. Residents of the affected villages said that it has become difficult for them to sit outside their house because of flies. Complaints had been made with higher officers on several occasions. Even then, residents of the eight villages were not getting relief from the flies. In Kamta village, a poultry farm is operated in a 25-acre plot since last six years.In the beginning, villagers had opposed it, but failed. Because of flies from this poultry farm, residents of Kamta, Pousari, Lanja, Bineka, Aureti, Jhiria, Navagaon and Musuvadeeh villages are facing trouble.
