50 mini/micro hydel power projects identified

The Meghalaya government has identified 50 mini and micro hydel power projects in the state.
Replying during the question hour on Monday, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma said that out of the 50 mini and micro hydel power projects identified in the state nine were identified by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
“Out of the nine projects three are commissioned and one is under construction,” Dr Sangma said.
The Sonapani Mini Hydel Power Project, in East Khasi Hills district with a potential of 1.5 mw, the Pashyiang Micro Hydel Power Project, East Khasi Hills district, with a potential power of 0.04 and Umsaw Micro Hydel Power Project, Jaintia Hills district have been commissioned.
The Chief Minister also informed that the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) have identified 37 projects. Out of the 37 the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of six projects have been completed and one is under Survey and Investigation.
The DPRs of, Um Shana, West Khasi Hills district with a potential of 200 kw, Umshana, West Khasi Hills district with a potential of 40 kw, Synrang Replein with 200 kw, Tarsi, with 120 kw, Wah Sakhain – MNREDA with 40 kw, Wah Sakhain – MSEB with 200 kw all in Jaintia Hills district, are ready, while, Simsang Mini Hydel Power Project, in East Garo Hills district with 200 kw potential is under investigation.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has identified four projects, the DPRs of three have been completed and one is under Survey and Investigation.
The DPRs of Risaw (0.08 mw), Tyrsaw (0.5 mw) in East Khasi Hills district and Umran (0.2 mw) in Ri Bhoi have been completed, while the DPR for Sanglet Micro Hydel Project in East Khasi Hills district with a potential of 2 mw is under investigation.
