At least 50 new dengue patients were admitted at the SCB Medical College Hospital here during the past 24 hours, taking the total number of dengue patients currently undergoing in the hospital to 138 by Tuesday afternoon.
Hospital Emergency Officer Dr BN Moharana informed that the inflow of dengue patients, particularly from Jajpur district, is increasing alarmingly over the past one week. “Out of 935 blood samples testing positive to dengue virus in this hospital, a record 448 of them are from Jajpur district alone,” Dr Moharana said, adding that most of them are from the Kalinganagar area.
Besides Jajpur, dengue is spreading rapidly in some pockets of Keonjhar, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Baleswar districts. At least 3,353 suspected dengue patients have come to the SCB Hospital in the current session of which 935 have tested positive.
While around 800 of them have now been discharged from the hospital after treatment, three of them have died till date. Currently, 138 patients are under treatment.
“Eight of these patients are in ICU and the conditions of two are critical,” Dr Moharana said, adding, “If need arises, we would write to the Government to provide more doctors and other hospital staff to man the dengue ward, which is getting crowded day-by-day.”
