It has been a decade since a major public outcry put the spotlight on Kathmandu's heavily contaminated drinking water. But except for marginal improvement in the quality of tapped water in Kathmandu, the problem today largely remains the same. But researchers say, these plants are effective in filtering out chemical contaminants, not micro-organisms that is the chief cause for concern.
