The state government would establish 500 animal husbandry development centres in nine districts. These centres would be opened under a five-year project costing Rs 51 crore 95 lakh in Ratlam, Badwani, Dhar, Raisen, Sidhi, Satna, Panna, Ashok Nagar and Guna districts. The project would be conducted jointly by Veterinary Services and JK Trust. The state cabinet has okayed the decision to establish these centres on May 14 this year. An animal husbandry centre would be established in a cluster of five to six villages in whose five kilometre radius there is no veterinary institution but these villages hold ample possibilities of milk marketing. A target has been set to raise 375 cross-breed/high breed calves at every centre in five years. Various facilities including conception and vaccination would be available at the centre which would also organise veterinary camps and motivate animal rearers to feed green fodder to their cattle. Primary veterinary services would also be proved at the door-steps. Every animal husbandry centre would be conducted by a 'Gopal'. Twelfth pass would be the minimum educational qualification for the this post. Besides, he should also be a local resident. A Gopal would be selected after four months' rigorous training at artificial insemination centre. Those who have already undergone training of Gau-Sewaks would be preferred. State level co-ordination committees would be established for proper monitoring of the project. Since the animal husbandry work is mostly done by women, they would be the major beneficiaries of the scheme. The beneficiaries would get increased profits following improvement in the breed of cattle.
