5,000 acres of land to be allocated for livestock farms

Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce, M.A. Rauf Siddiqui, told the business community that the government has decided to allocate 5000 acres of land, near Hyderabad for livestock development. Speaking at an Iftar dinner of Sindh Wholesale Poultry Dealers Association on Tuesday, he emphasised the need for developing poultry farms and livestock and seafood base on the modern lines to meet international standards and to pave the way for their export. He cited the example of China and said that China is exporting meat in huge quantities whereas Pakistan's meat export is negligible. The minister pointed out that the European Union had imposed a ban on the import of seafood from Pakistan owing to poor quality. He said that with little efforts, use of modern methods and government help the quality of seafood and poultry products can be improved. Speaking on the occasion Sindh Minister for Food Supply and Price Fixation Shoaib Bukhari said that Pakistan could earn huge foreign exchange by aggressive marketing of poultry products, seafood and livestock in the international market. He said that there is huge demand for these products in the international market. They are quality conscious and advised the business community to follow international standards to tap these markets.
