50,000 houses for weaker sections soon

The Haryana Urban Local Bodies Department has so far spent about Rs 4,100 crore since 2005 on strengthening of roads and construction of parks in urban areas falling under various Municipalities of the state. A spokesman of the department said with a view to make the state slum free in the next five years, residential facilities would be provided to the people residing in slums areas of Municipalities. Also, the department would construct 50,000 affordable houses in urban areas for weaker sections of the society. He said solid waste management system based on scientific methods was being provided in the areas of municipalities. So far, five such solid waste management plants have been set up. Also, street light facility has been provided in the municipalities and CFL lights are being installed for power saving. He said Rajiv Gandhi Shehri Bhagidari Yojna (RGSBY) had been implemented in the state. The main objective of this scheme was to constitute local sabha and ward committees in the urban areas to ensure people’s participation in urban development works. Under the scheme works related to construction and management of community centres, community parks, maintenance of street lights, augmentation of water supply and sewerage system etc have been included. He said under this scheme, a sum of Rs 1.86 crore haa been released to Municipal Corporations of Hisar and Panipat for carrying out these works.
