The State Government has declared all the districts as the drought hit. The State government has taken special schemes to combat the situation. Among them two important ones are tractorising of land free of cost and distribution of free seeds. According to the data available in the office of the joint director of Agriculture in the jurisdiction of undivided Sivsagar district, Golaghat is the worst-affected district. A total of 51,754 hectares of agricultural land were affected in the drought. Among them in 41,698 hectares paddy was transplanted while 10,056 were lying abandoned. A total of 56,158 farmer families of 621 villages were affected.
