Amid pressure from the Supreme Court to seal shops in residential areas and also from the Urban Development Ministry to allow the shops to operate, the MCD found a way out to buy another 24 hours of time as confusion prevailed all over. The MCD constituted a six-member Technical Committee to figure out how the UDM notification allowing shops to operate in residential areas could be implemented. This means, if notifications come into effect following approval of the L-G, sealing action in the Capital on 189 notified roads (MCD figures in Supreme Court) would be confined only to the ground floors of residential-cum-commercial properties.
