The ministry of urban development and poverty alleviation, which is almost ready with the proposed National Urban Renewal Mission (Nurm), is likely to come up with a formal announcement on the same in the next few days. It would simultaneously announce the National Urban Housing and Habitat Policy (NUHHP). Sources said that the two would be integrated to have an all-round development in the infrastructure sector. Under Nurm, as many as 60 cities along with state capitals would be identified for infrastructure upgrade, which would be mandatory and optional. Issues like property tax, rent control tax and autonomy of local bodies would be revised under the proposed mission.
