74% of slum population literate

Almost three quarters of India's slum population is literate. In fact, the literacy rate for the population aged over seven years an living in slums is over 80 per cent in four states, Meghalaya, Tripura, Kerala and Maharashtra. The number of literates, as a percentage of the population over seven years old the population over seven years old is 65.38 per cent at the all-India level. The average literacy rate in slums is much higher at 73.87 per cent.
