7,400 houses for slum-dwellers

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board on Wednesday approved construction of 7,400 houses for slum-dwellers under the Economically Weaker Section category at Bhalaswa Jahangirpuri. At a meeting in Delhi Secretariat, the Board also gave its nod for construction of a community hall at Trilokpuri and passed its budget for the year 2012-13. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who chaired the meeting of the Board, said the EWS houses would have five floors and would come up at a cost of Rs 356.79 crore. The project at Pocket II in Bhalaswa Jahangirpuri would be divided into two parts. Under one of the components, 3,400 EWS houses would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 172.29 crore and the scope of work would include internal water supply, building work, sanitary installation internal electrification, external roads, paths, water supply, drainage, parks, boundary wall and sewerage treatment plant. The remaining 4,000 EWS houses would be constructed at a cost of Rs.184.50 crore. Ms. Dikshit said emphasis should be given on quality of the construction and proper maintenance of these projects. The Board also approved construction of a double-storied community hall at Block 3 in Trilokpuri. The building would come up on an area of 2,140 metres at a cost of Rs.3.75 crore. The covered area, one each of the two floors of the building, would be 637.52 square metres. This project has been funded by the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board. The annual budget of DUSIB for the year 2012-13 was also passed at the meeting. It would now be sent to the Delhi Government for formal consideration. As per the budget document, DUSIB would seek to improve its financial health by enhancing its capital and revenue receipts through disposal of residential and commercial plots, built up shops and bringing special schemes for conversion of leasehold property to freehold.
