87,000-hectare area irrigated by Narmada Valley projects

Actual irrigation has been done in 87,000 hectare area from Narmada Valley projects till December 2011 during the current fiscal. During the period, 601.59 crore units of power have also been generated by Narmada Valley hydel power plants. This information was given at a meeting of departmental advisory committee chaired by Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development, Kanhaiyalal Agrawal. Member MLA Balkrishna Patidar, special invitee Kamal Patel, vice-chairman of Narmada Valley Development Authority OP Rawat and other officers were present at the meeting. Minister of State Agrawal instructed to accelerate the pace of creating awareness in the project areas with a view to make irrigation facility available to maximum number of farmers. He instructed that water should be released upto 155 Kms from Indira Sagar Project by May 2012. On his attention being drawn by special invitee member Kamal Patel, the Minister of State instructed to undertake survey of a bridge between villages Bicholoa and Kardhan in Handia tahsil of Harda district. The meeting was informed that investment sanctions for Upper Narmada and Halon irrigation projects have been received from the Planning Commission. Ninety percent work of Punasa lift irrigation project has been completed. It will irrigate 10,300 hectare area. The survey of Khargone Lift Irrigation Project has been completed and project's work is being carried out at a rapid pace. Primary feasibility report on Sher, Shakkar and Machherwa projects has been received from Union Water Commission. Detailed project reports of these projects will soon be prepared. The first phase work of left canal of Omkareshwar canal project is proposed to be completed by June 2012. Onfoot survey of Narmada Parikrama Path has been completed. Minor canals have not been proposed for the villages in the submergence area. Pubic meetings and street plays are being held creating awareness among people of Narmada Valley about precautions to prevent malaria. Hoardings have also been put up at key points.
