Many of the mangrove formations in Kerala are on the verge of extinction, mostly due to indiscriminate destruction arising out of severe human pressures on the coastal front. A project has been drawn up to rehabilitate the existing mangrove formations along the Vembanad coast to devise policies for the management of this vital ecosystem.
