Machnoor, a tiny village near Zaheerabad town of Medak, about 110 km West of Hyderabad, is like any typical poverty-stricken village of the backward and dry region of Telangana. But there is something unique and unusual about the place symbolised by a tall transmission tower protruding into the sky. This belongs to a unique, and perhaps only one of its kind, radio station which is run by women.(Wo)manned by three young girls, this radio station has for now restricted itself to producing programmes on issues ranging from agriculture to culture which are then played in the meetings of the "sangams", or association of women in 70 villages in a radius of 50 km.
