AARI has evolved more than 426 new varieties of different crops which is an instrument for substantially increase in the overall per acre yield. DG AARI Dr Noorul Islam said a record increase had been witnessed with the evolution of new varieties which had contributed a major role in the overall increase of the GDP. He said with the efforts of AARI scientists who have evolved the new varieties of the wheat, the production of wheat in the province of the Punjab has witnessed 7 folds increase. and have now attained a target of 19 million tons as compared to the production of wheat in 1947-48.
