Although fairly impressive achievements have been made in providing access to protected drinking water sources, there are areas where the combination of private and public protected sources is yet to make the required impact, according to a nationwide survey on access to and availability of drinking water conducted by the Bangalore-based Public Affairs Centre (PAC). Protected drinking water is a basic service that Governments have sought to provide across the country. The main source of protected water supply across the country are: domestic piped supply by local/State Government managed scheme, public taps, public hand pumps and bore wells.
