As Asia prepares to rebuild itself after the killer wave, it will take a lot more than just political bickering to prevent a similar situation from recurring
The Tsunami that has caused havoc across several South Asian countries has taken a human toll of more than 125,000, a figure that is likely to climb as the numbers from more inaccessible areas are added up. The economic damage too is considerable. According to the world's largest reinsurer Munich Re, it will top $13.6 billion. For the affected, most of this is a total write off; few - including corporate bodies - had insured themselves against such damage. The tally also does not take into account much of the after effects
